Watchmaker - Erased From The Memory Of Man

Watchamer - Erased From The Memory Of Man

Watchmaker's third and final lp, blends thrash, black, and death metal in the most noisy and violent way possible. Hardly even music, mainly violence.

Pig Children - [1985] - Blood for the State 12''

Pig Children - [1985]- Blood for the State 12''

This band is quite often passed up, I think of Pig Children as being one of the best bands to have ever come out of LA.

The Promise Ring - Horse Latitudes Ep (1997)

My favorite record, by one of my favorite bands. If you aren't familiar its super stripped down emo indie rock stuff. If you like The Get Up Kids, Braid, Texas Is The Reason, etc you need this. This ep has a real day dream like quality to it that captured me from this first time I heard it. Enjoy.

No Justice - Still Fighing 7"

This is the only 7" from No Justice out of Washington DC. It seems like a lot of people not from the East Coast haven't heard them which is a shame. They are fast hardcore, and their shows were super violent and fun (look up their last show on youtube).

Sir Lord Baltimore- Kingdom Come

Sir Lord Baltimore- Kingdom Come (1970)

While Black Sabbath is unanimously credited with the creation of Heavy Metal, and Led Zeppelin claim to have nothing to do with "that noise", there are some bands of the era that are often skipped over. Sir Lord Baltimore successfully mix the bluesy guitar riffs of Led Zeppelin II with the urgency of MC5. A 1971 review of this record contained the first documented use of the term "heavy metal" to refer to a style of music.

Shining - IV - The Eerie Cold (2005)

Shining - IV - The Eerie Cold (2005)

The bright ones in the crowd can see that this album is 4 years old. Still seems pretty fresh to me which says a lot to me coming from a genre where there is a lot of mediocrity. This is a Black Metal band, but that isn't the interesting part. Don't get me wrong...the BM parts are solid...even though to me they sound a little new school. Regardless, they do what they are supposed to do and I enjoy them. However, the elements that make this album far more powerful are the interludes before, between, and after the climactic parts. Slow, soft, clean, haunting melodies that enforce the overall theme of depression. Bass playing is usually not a showcase on most BM albums however, in Shining the bass is creeping along setting and enhancing certain elements bringing to mind, strangely, Rudimentary Peni...and even dare I say the Poison Girls' song that appeared on the A-Sides compilation. That's about it. It's worth the download if you are into "DARK SHIT BRO". I am sure a lot of the tr00 bros don't like this, and the album was met with a backlash of sorts, but it's good. At least good enough for me to dig, and I am kind of over bm for the most part.

Souls Of Mischief- 93 'Til Infinity

Souls Of Mischief- 93 'Til Infinity

For my first post, I wanted to share one my favorite non-punk/metal/rock albums. Souls Of Mischief was a hip-hop group in the early 90's featuring members of Hieroglyphics. If you enjoy the funky, jazz-sampling sounds of A Tribe Called Quest or Nas' Illmatic, then give this a shot.
